Mares will be expected to run in a small, herd environment for the majority of the time, but will be given some exclusive time with Frederick whilst in season. All mares must be wormed upon arrival and be accompanied by passports showing a flu booster vaccination within six months. Mares registered with The Shetland Pony Stud-Book Society and standing no higher than 34" are welcomed. Frederick has a lovely manner with mares and runs nicely with foals at foot too.
A Vet Certificate (including Clitoral (CEM) and Cervical (CX) swabs and Equine Viral Arteritis (EVA) bloods) will be required for the mare before running with the stallion which can be obtained by the owner's vet, or arranged by Sycamore Nook's vet upon arrival of the mare, as results only take 2 to 3 days to come back. For more information on the diseases tested for and to understand the importance of testing, please click on the following VETERINARY ISSUES. Ponies with locking patellas will be turned away to ensure the breeds' quality is not compromised.
Jen is an ex-international event groom, holds her BHS Stage 3 in Riding & Care and a Foundation Degree in Equine Studies. Along with 25 years experience of owning horses and ponies, Jen will ensure visiting mares are cared for to a high standard with their welfare at the forefront.
